FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker sat out Wedneday's practice session due to a neck ailment that likely stems from a fourth-quarter tackle by Steelers safety Troy Polamalu (see photo at right). Welker stayed in the game after the hard tackle and talked to reporters afterwards, an encouraging sign for his status, but he was one of two players (linebacker Dane Fletcher the other) not to participate in the first practice of the week.
