FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Rookie running back Stevan Ridley was on the rise after the team's Oct. 2 victory over the Raiders. He had a season-high 10 carries for 97 yards and an impressive 33-yard touchdown that day, showing speed to the outside and power between the tackles.

But Ridley has been quiet since, which was a topic that came up in the locker room this morning.

Since his Raiders breakthrough, Ridley has been on the field for a total of 25 snaps over the next four games, a decision that might be tied to a rookie's steep learning curve in pass protection. He dressed but didn't play in one game (Steelers) and has totaled 13 carries for 42 yards over the four-game stretch.

The third-round pick out of LSU is not discouraged.

"Coming around here, man, you never know. That's not my job to try to figure it out. I just know that when I'm called on the field, I'm just going to try to do the best that I can," he told reporters.

"[Reps] have been up and down, but that's part of football and it's part of growing and part of maturing. I just have to go out there and do it play to play. I think if I do that, I think that will be the quickest way to get on the field."

The 5-foot-11, 225-pound Ridley, who is second on the team with 190 rushing yards on 31 carries, was then asked how hard it is to build momentum when opportunities are limited.

"This job is a hard job. As a player, you can fall into that if you want to, but that's really going to put you behind as a person," he answered. "So really, when you get the opportunity, if you don't go out there and make the most out of it, don't [expect] to get another one. I'm not going to fall into that trap of saying 'the reps have been down.' I just know I'm trying to take advantage of every opportunity they give me."
