The Patriots were flagged for nine accepted penalties in their win over the Jets, upping their season total to 61. The average of 6.7 accepted penalties per game is high for a Bill Belichick-coached team.

Last year, for example, the Patriots were flagged for an average of 5.18 accepted penalties per game. In 2009, it was 5.06, and the year before that, it was 3.56.

The last time the Patriots were penalized at such a frequent rate was in 2005, when they averaged 6.875 accepted penalties per game.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski picked up two penalties (illegal touching of a pass, unsportsmanlike conduct), and with guard Logan Mankins (holding) picking up another, the two are now tied atop the updated penalty watch.

Also, Wes Welker drew his team-high fourth holding penalty (on cornerback Darrelle Revis).
