FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Perhaps anticipating an open spot on their practice squad in the coming days, the Patriots worked out two possible candidates on Friday – tight end/receiver Dorin Dickerson and quarterback Mike Hartline.

Dickerson, who played a tight end/H-back role at the University of Pittsburgh, entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft choice of the Houston Texans in 2010, the 227th overall player selected. The Texans converted the 6-foot-2, 226-pound Dickerson to receiver, and he appeared in seven games as a rookie (0 catches).

Dickerson was waived by the Texans at the final roster cut down this year and briefly landed on the Steelers’ practice squad. After a few days, he was placed on the practice squad injured reserve list (link here).

The Patriots have H-back Garrett Mills on the practice squad. They don't have a receiver on the practice squad.

Meanwhile, Hartline played at the University of Kentucky and signed as a free agent with the Colts after he wasn’t selected in April’s 2011 draft. He was waived toward the end of the preseason and was with the Colts’ practice squad for a month.

This Canton Repository previously wrote on Hartline, who is from Canton, Ohio (link here).
