Brady says Fletcher hit 'clean'

12/12/2011

Jeff Triplette's officiating crew made its presence felt in Sunday's game between the Patriots and Redskins, with three questionable penalties for roughing the passer/unncessary roughness.

1. Patriots defensive end Andre Carter was flagged for going low on Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman in the second quarter, negating an interception.

2. Redskins linebacker London Fletcher was called for a forearm to the head of quarterback Tom Brady, extending the Patriots' drive at the end of the second quarter that ended in a field goal.

3. Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork was called for unnecessary roughness for delivering a blow to the head on running back Evan Royster when Royster was on the ground (but had not been touched) after catching a pass.

When it comes to No. 2, Brady shared his thoughts on the play during his weekly appearance on sports radio WEEI on Monday morning. Brady was going into his slide when Fletcher delivered the hit and never made contact with Brady's head.

"I thought it was a really clean play by him. I think we're pretty fortunate we got the call," Brady said.
