The science behind Gronk's rumble
December, 15, 2011
ESPN Sports Science's play of the week (video above) came from our own Rob Gronkowski, but it wasn't one of his two touchdown receptions against the Redskins. It was his 10-yard out that he turned into a 49-yard gain. On the play, Gronk not only makes a diving grab, he gets up, escapes from two defenders trying to drive him out of bounds (including one being dragged behind him) and continues down the sideline.
John Brenkus goes into the science of the play, during which Gronk moves with the momentum of roughly 2,300 pound-feet per second. Freight train, coming through!
