The Patriots released safety Vincent Fuller on Friday and promoted defensive end Alex Silvestro and cornerback/safety Sterling Moore from the practice squad, the team announced.
Silvestro's promotion is most notable, as fellow practice squad defensive end Markell Carter was expected to get the nod to fill the roster spot created when defensive end Andre Carter was placed on injured reserve earlier this week. Silvestro is an undrafted rookie free agent out of Rutgers who has been with the Patriots since training camp. Carter was a 2011 sixth-round pick of the team.
Fuller was signed by the Patriots on Wednesday. He was added to the injury report on Thursday with a forearm injury, which may have played a factor in his release.
Moore returns to the Patriots' active roster after spending the past two weeks on the practice squad. The rookie started three games for the team earlier this season. He adds depth to a defensive backfield that could see the return of safety Patrick Chung on Saturday against Miami.
