The Jaguars have requested and received permission from New England to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien for their head coaching vacancy, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports.

Schefter also reports that O'Brien is "still squarely on Penn State's radar" for the head coaching position there. On Sunday, Schefter and ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen reported that the two sides were expected to meet this week in an effort to work out a deal.

CBS Sports' Charley Casserly reported earlier Monday that O'Brien "won't be going to Penn State," while O'Brien's agent told the Boston Herald on Sunday evening that any reports of an imminent agreement between O'Brien and Penn State were "off-base" and O'Brien's "dream" is to be an NFL head coach.

O'Brien is in the final season of his contract with the Patriots.
