In what has become a regular routine for Bill Belichick at this time of year, he travels to various college campuses and works out draft-eligible prospects. On Friday, he was at Nebraska as the featured speaker at a coaching clinic, and he carved out time to work out three Cornhuskers:

1. LB Lavonte David
2. CB Alfonzo Dennard
3. OT Marcel Jones

Using Belichick's workout as a springboard, here is a bit more on each prospect and where they project to fit with the Patriots:

Lavonte David -- Measured 6-0 1/2 and 233 pounds at the NFL combine and is projected as high as a second-round pick by some analysts. A smaller linebacker than the Patriots normally target, he is considered to have good instincts and outstanding work habits. David would project to Jerod Mayo's position in the Patriots' scheme. David said he played in a multiple defense at Nebraska -- "we had a mixture of both 4-3 and 3-4, and I think I got a good feel for it" -- and his football smarts figure to appeal to Belichick.

Alfonzo Dennard -- Measured 5-foot-10 and 204 pounds at the NFL combine, he is part of the second-tier of cornerbacks who could come off the board as high as the second round. Like David, he is undersized for his position, although he stressed at the combine that his ability to play press coverage helps him against bigger receivers. He would seemingly project more to the slot "star" position in the Patriots' scheme. He played a lot of football at Nebraska (48 games/32 starts).

Marcel Jones -- A projected early- to middle-round pick, he has NFL-type size (6-foot-6, 330 pounds) with long arms. He played in 41 games over the last four years, with 25 starts, and medical personnel figure to look closer at why he played in just four games in 2010 (sciatic nerve pain). He has the type of physical make-up and athleticism that makes him a candidate to enroll in the Dante Scarnecchia School of Offensive Linemen.
