Sharing thoughts on some of the big moves around the NFL, as they relate to the Patriots...
Last week, when the Colts officially released quarterback Peyton Manning, the possibility of Manning in the AFC East was a hot topic here.
It won't happen, with reports surfacing today that Manning has told the Dolphins they are no longer in the running.
From this view, it is a positive development for the Patriots. While the Dolphins might be better off in the long run, this is a short-term hit for them.
Until they solve their quarterback question, they are going to have a tough time challenging the Patriots.
Former Packers backup Matt Flynn might be the answer, but given how Kevin Kolb's situation has turned out in Arizona, it is a reminder that backups-turned-starters are no guarantee.
I like Dolphins coach Joe Philbin and think he will ultimately create an atmosphere that could lead to a winning football team. I thought a healthy Manning would have accelerated that process.
