In an interview on the Patriots' official website, owner Robert Kraft said the team supports a bylaw proposal that would create a new category on injured reserve. The new category would allow clubs to place one player on "injured reserve/return", which means the player wouldn't be lost for the entire season.

NFL owners will discuss the bylaw proposal at the annual league meeting, which is underway in Palm Beach, Florida.

"I think it's very beneficial for the league. When Tommy [Brady] got injured a few years ago [2008], there was a chance that he could have come back," Kraft told Brian Lowe of the "Patriots Today" program.

"In the end, there are so many great players in this league. It's a physical game. Knowing that a player could come back in the second half of the season who maybe [is] banged up for eight weeks, I think it will help to improve the quality of the game. I think it's a plus."
