Now that compensatory draft choices have been awarded by the NFL, the exact spots of each Patriots draft pick is known. Prior to last week, only the spots in the first, second and third round were solidified.

1a. 27th overall
1b. 31st overall
2a. 48th overall
2b. 62nd overall
3. 93rd overall
4. 126th overall

Beginning last Tuesday, a look at some of the recent players picked in those spots was being highlighted, wrapping up today at 27.

2011: CB Jimmy Smith (Ravens)
2010: CB Devin McCourty (Patriots)
2009: RB Donald Brown (Colts)
2008: CB Antoine Cason (Chargers)
2007: WR Robert Meachem (Saints)
2006: RB DeAngelo Williams (Panthers)
2005: WR Roddy White (Falcons)

ANALYSIS: Assuming the Patriots keep the pick -- which is a big "if" given Bill Belichick's willingness to wheel and deal -- this is a spot the Patriots have some familiarity with, having drafted Devin McCourty at 27 in 2010. Like the 31st pick, there has been widespread success drafting at this position in recent years. The lone exception might be the Colts with Donald Brown, who could have more of a chance to emerge if the Colts turn to a more balanced offensive attack this season. The Patriots would be more than pleased if they were able to add a player the caliber of White or Williams at this spot.
