ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, who yesterday reported that Wes Welker was a no-show for the Patriots' voluntary workouts, was on SportsCenter today to discuss the receiver's contract situation. The Patriots used their franchise tag on Welker.
"(Welker) hasn't signed the franchise tender," Schefter says in the video above. "He does not intend to sign the franchise tender at this time. He wants that long-term deal that all these players want. The two sides have been unable to bridge their differences. As long as there's no long-term deal, Wes Welker does not plan to sign that franchise tender at this point in time.
"He was a no-show for the Patriots' voluntary workouts on Monday. Again, these are voluntary workouts. It's not as if this is an organized team activity with mandatory attendance, it's not as if this is training camp. Not too much should be made of it."
