The New England Patriots signed offensive lineman Mike Ingersoll on Friday, according to a league source. Undrafted rookie tight end Brad Herman, who underwent surgery to repair an Achilles injury, was waived/injured.
The 24-year old Ingersoll (6-foot-5, 300 pounds) signed with the Chiefs last season as an undrafted free agent from North Carolina. He was a two-year starter at right tackle in college. Ingersoll spent time late last season on the Buccaneers' practice squad but was waived by Tampa Bay last month.
Herman, who was carted off from Thursday's practice, will have to pass through waivers by Monday afternoon before being placed on injured reserve.
The Patriots roster now stands at 87 players, two shy of the limit.
NOTE: A previous version of this story stated that Herman would still count against the 90-man roster limit. He will not.
