QUINCY -- Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski kept it short and sweet when asked about the status of his injured left ankle.
"Great!" he told reporters at the fourth-annual golf tournament to benefit the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, held at Granite Links Golf Club.
Gronkowski, who didn't take part in the team's organized team activities and mandatory minicamp over the last four weeks, didn't elaborate. He also declined to say whether he felt he would be ready for the start of training camp in late July.
As for his recently signed contract extension, which has a maximum value of $54 million, Gronkowski said simply: "I'm just happy. Both sides are really happy. I love all my fans out there. It's a great community, a great team. It's awesome going out there every single Sunday in front of that crowd. I'm happy to be here long-term, definitely. It all worked out well."
Gronkowski said he hasn't bought anything since signing the contract and hasn't changed because of the contract. One might say that was reflected in his remarks about participating in the golf tournament, as he noted one of the perks was a free meal.
