When Chad Ochocinco was acquired by the Patriots, his desire to wear No. 85 was well documented. The end result was tight end Aaron Hernandez giving the number up to Ochocinco, and switching to Randy Moss' old No. 81.
"It was just a welcome to the team," Hernandez explained at the time. "I thought he may look better and play better in 85, because that's his last name. So why not give it to him?"
When the Patriots released Ochocinco earlier this month, the possibility was there for Hernandez to run a reverse and switch back to 85.
Instead, the number will now be donned by veteran receiver Brandon Lloyd, who had been wearing No. 88 in offseason workouts.
