Warren Moon, who threw for nearly 50,000 yards during his NFL career, recently told NFL.com that he believes Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is the top player at the position today.

Said Moon, "It's just hard for me to go against (New England Patriots quarterback) Tom Brady, just because of the body of work that he's done. Peyton (Manning) would be right there, but I don't know what Peyton is going to be when he comes back (with the Denver Broncos), so until he gets back out on the field again, I'm just going on what Tom has been able to do with his team over a long period of time."

His comments come on the heels of the unveiling of the Top 100 NFL Players for 2012 as voted on by the NFL players, in which Brady ranked fourth overall, trailing both Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

That ranking drew criticism from both Warren Sapp and Deion Sanders (former NFL stars and current NFL Network analysts), each of whom declared Brady’s ranking as the biggest surprise among the top 10 players on the list.

Brady remains at the center of the discussion around the league’s best player more than a decade after his assumption of the starting role in New England, a testament to his longevity and ability to stay ahead in a league that has evolved rapidly over that time.
Field Yates has previous experience interning with the New England Patriots on both their coaching and scouting staffs. A graduate of Wesleyan University (CT), he is a regular contributor to ESPN Boston's Patriots coverage and ESPN Insider.
