Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had been nominated for two ESPY Awards this summer, but was unable to take home the trophy for either on Wednesday night.

Gronk was nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete, which went to New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin. For the Best NFL Player award, Gronkowski fell to Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

It’s the second time in as many years that a Patriots player has been nominated but did not win the ESPY for Best NFL Player, as quarterback Tom Brady also fell to Rodgers in 2011.
Field Yates has previous experience interning with the New England Patriots on both their coaching and scouting staffs. A graduate of Wesleyan University (CT), he is a regular contributor to ESPN Boston's Patriots coverage and ESPN Insider.
