New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard on Tuesday waived his right to a speedy trial, according to a report by the Lincoln Journal Star/HuskerExtra.com.

Dennard reportedly was granted a continuance, which will push his trial date to December.

In May, the former Nebraska cornerback pleaded not guilty to charges of third-degree assault of a police officer, stemming from an April 21 incident at a Lincoln, Neb., bar.

The 22-year-old Dennard was a seventh-round pick of the Patriots in the 2012 NFL draft.
