The Patriots hosted free-agent tight end Visanthe Shiancoe late last week, and an opinion was shared as to why the signing might make sense (link here).
But today comes news, via Jason La Canfora of CBSSports, that Shiancoe is scheduled to visit with the Eagles on Tuesday. With Shiancoe taking a visit with another team, it could be viewed as a sign that the Patriots, whose first public practice is Thursday, won't be signing him.
One thought on this: It could mean there's good news with Rob Gronkowski's ankle as it relates to being available for the start of training camp. If Gronkowski was going to start camp on the active/physically unable to perform list, the need for Shiancoe would have been greater.
Another possibility is that the Patriots and Shiancoe simply couldn't come to an financial agreement, but from this view, that seems less likely than the Gronkowski scenario.
