FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- One of the bright spots from the Patriots' 7-6 win over the Saints in the preseason opener was the play of first-round draft choice Chandler Jones.
Starting at right defensive end, Jones drew back-to-back holding penalties on Saints left tackle Jermon Bushrod in the first quarter with strong rushes off the edge.
Bushrod, who said last week that Jones looked a little bit like Giants defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul in practice, repeated some similar thoughts after the preseason opener.
"I think he's going to be a good player in this league. It was a battle out there," said Bushrod, now in his sixth NFL season. "I think he has a bright future ahead of him."
That said, Bushrod didn't think the holding penalties were warranted.
"I didn't like either one of them," he said. "The second one, they said he was going to the ground and I guess they thought I forced him to the ground, but I didn't."
Bushrod was initially beaten inside on the play by the 6-foot-5, 260-pound Jones, but felt he recovered without holding.
Still, he gave props to Jones.
"He definitely looks the part, a good physical specimen," he said.
