FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots will be back on the practice fields this afternoon (1:30-4 p.m.), continuing what will be the last week of training camp at Gillette Stadium.
Next Monday, Aug. 20, the Patriots will host the Eagles in their second preseason game. They will then travel to Tampa, practicing with the Buccaneers for two days before a Friday preseason matchup on Aug. 24. They return home prior to their preseason finale in New York on Aug. 29.
The hectic schedule, which includes three games in 10 days, means that the upcoming week of practice will be important for players looking to prove their worth for the 53-man roster.
"This is a big week," coach Bill Belichick said after Sunday's practice. "Time's running out for whatever moves anybody's gonna make, they got to make them."
Prior to the preseason finale against the Giants, the team will cut its roster from 90 players to 75 players on Monday, Aug. 27. Final roster cuts to 53 players are due by 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31.
For the players who are in position to make the final roster, this week will also be critical to correcting mistakes heading into the regular season.
"We got a long week, so it's a good opportunity for us to get a lot of things done here this week, tie up a few loose ends," Belichick said. "We got more new installation going in. Situations to cover, a lot of things like that, as well as getting ready for Philadelphia later on in the week."
Added Belichick: "We have to get it done this week. This is a big week for us."
