It may not have been quite like a typical Red Sox-Yankees epic novel of a baseball game, but if Monday night's Patriots preseason loss to the Eagles seemed long, that's because it was.
At three hours, 15 minutes, it was the third-longest preseason game of the Bill Belichick era.
The length of the game may in part be explained by the number of penalties: there were 25 flags thrown, 23 of which were accepted. The Eagles had 16 of those penalties, while the Patriots were flagged seven times.
Of the Patriots' 47 preseason games since 2000, here's how Monday night's contest ranked:
3 hours, 18 minutes -- August 28, 2004, at Carolina
3 hours, 17 minutes -- August 17, 2007, vs. Tennessee
3 hours, 15 minutes -- August 20, 2012, vs. Philadelphia
3 hours, 15 minutes -- August 18, 2005, vs. New Orleans
3 hours, 15 minutes -- August 22, 2003, at Philadelphia
3 hours, 15 minutes -- August 20, 2000, vs. Tampa Bay
