TAMPA -- A couple of leftovers from the Buccaneers locker room over the last few days at joint practices:
Donald Penn impressed with Chandler Jones. Buccaneers left tackle Donald Penn, a Pro Bowler in 2010 whom the team signed to a reported six-year, $48 million extension in 2010, shared his thoughts on working against Patriots rookie defensive end Chandler Jones. "I think he has a lot of upside. It was only my third day practicing, so it was a good battle going up against somebody different like that. Smart guy and I think he's going to work hard," Penn said. "He's long, with some long arms, which is great as a defensive end. And he's pretty strong, with a good power rush -- I had to sit down on it a couple times [planting your weight on an opponent]. I could tell he's learning from the other d-linemen. I'm sitting there watching, trying to listen to what the d-line is telling him, so I can get some insight. I think he's going to be a good player."
Lavonte David recalls workout with Bill Belichick. Rookie linebacker Lavonte David (Nebraska) recalled his pre-draft workout with Patriots coach Bill Belichick. It was the only personal workout he had with an NFL head coach, which highlights how Belichick's work as a scout leading up to the draft is a bit unique when compared to his peers. "It was basic bag drills, drops, and stuff like that. All football movement things, so it wasn't really anything out of the ordinary," David recalled of the workout on Nebraska's campus. "We watched tape and he got a chance to pick my brain, and I got a chance to pick his brain, and it was all good. I got a chance to show him how I am on the field, what type of football player I am -- if I'm smart and how I diagnose stuff. It was a good experience."
