One consideration for the Patriots as they trim their roster to 53 players later this week will be the health of offensive lineman Nick McDonald.
The versatile third-year player, who has played across the offensive line since being removed from the active/PUP list three weeks ago, was injured in Friday night's preseason loss in Tampa.
After the game, McDonald was spotted in the locker room having trouble getting dressed, apparently dealing with an arm injury.
The expectation is that McDonald will not be ready to play for a couple of weeks, at the minimum.
Whether this will impact McDonald's roster spot is uncertain. If the team chooses to keep McDonald on the 53-man roster, they may carry an extra offensive lineman for the period McDonald is unable to play.
The injury also could be a positive development for center Dan Koppen, although the possibility still exists that the team could part ways with the veteran regardless of McDonald's condition. Any possible return of guard Brian Waters also would alter the picture along the interior offensive line.
