Vereen only player not spotted at practice

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Running back Shane Vereen was the lone player not spotted at Patriots practice on Friday, making it highly unlikely he will play in Sunday's season-opener.

Vereen has not practiced since hobbling off with a foot injury in the team's Aug. 24 preseason game at Tampa.

With Vereen unlikely to play, it positions second-year player Stevan Ridley to take on a lead role at the position.
