FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots rookie defensive end Chandler Jones made an early impact for his new team, forcing a fumble of Titans quarterback Jake Locker that was scooped up by fellow first-round draft pick Dont'a Hightower and returned for a score in the season opener.

A day later, Jones admitted that he didn't realize he had forced a turnover at the time of the play.

"I didn't even know it was a strip sack, to be honest with you, I thought it was just a normal sack," he said on Monday afternoon. "And I got up and Dont'a was in the end zone jumping up and down, so that was good."

In recalling his technique on the play, an impressive swim move over the frame of Titans tackle Michael Roos, Jones says it was not a predetermined maneuver, but rather a reaction to what his opponent gave him.

"Me being a pass rusher, you basically just take what they give you," Jones said. "When you're rushing the passer, you look at the offensive lineman, his stature and what he's doing based on what move you're going to do. And that's what he gave me, so I took it."

Jones, who owns an active Twitter handle (@Chan95Jones) with nearly 53,000 followers, also shared a neat story about reading a prediction from a fan who foresaw the big play hours before it happened.

"It was funny that that happened because every time someone mentions me on Twitter, I read it. I read it all the time," he said. "And one of the fans had mentioned, 'You know, I'm playing Madden and you got a strip sack fumble and Hightower picked it up for a touchdown.' And that was right before the game, I was reading that. For it to happen in real life, it was great. I thought it was like a dream come true. It was funny that that guy predicted it."
