Only so much can be gleaned from two games. With that said, one trend to keep an eye on involves Tom Brady on third down.
Through two games, Brady is just 5-for-14 on third down, having also fallen victim to two sacks. His 35.7 completion percentage on third down currently ranks last among quarterbacks with at least 10 attempts.
Last season, Brady completed 57.6 percent of passes on third down, ninth best in the NFL. He targeted Welker 44 times on third down, completing 26 passes for 24 first downs. Long his favored third-down target, perhaps Brady has been affected by Welker’s reduced snap total.
Thus far, Brady is just 2-for-9 when targeting a wide receiver on third down. That includes 1-for-4 when throwing to Welker.
