BALTIMORE -- The status of Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith for Sunday night's game against the New England Patriots is in doubt after Smith's younger brother was killed in a motorcycle crash early Sunday morning.
According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, Smith left the Ravens' team hotel at 2 a.m. Sunday to be with his family in Virginia.
Smith told Ravens coach John Harbaugh that he wanted to play in Sunday night's game against the Patriots, a source told Paolantonio. Harbaugh told Smith that it was Smith's call to make.
Last season, Smith started 14 games for Baltimore, catching 50 passes for 841 yards and seven touchdowns. In two games this season, he has caught four passes for 108 yards, including a 52-yard reception.
On Sunday, Smith put the following message on his Twitter account:
"I can't believe my little brother is gone...be thankful for your loved ones and tell them you love them...this is the hardest thing ever."
