FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Passing along some quick hits from Wednesday's locker room availability period:
Hernandez spotted again. Tight end Aaron Hernandez was spotted near the entrance of the locker room, keeping it light in a brief exchange with reporters awaiting locker room access. Hernandez was not wearing anything around his injured right ankle, which could perhaps be seen as a sign that he is coming along. He previously has been spotted with a protective walking boot.
Gregory on 'real refs.' Safety Steve Gregory at first was reluctant to talk about the replacement officials, but later told Mike Lowe of the Portland Press Herald that "we need to find a way to get the guys back in there, the real refs." Gregory added: "Those are things that are out of our control as players. We need to just go out and play football and whoever's in there, find a way to win a football game."
Keeping an eye on Spiller. After Bills running back C.J. Spiller injured his shoulder in Sunday's win over the Browns, Buffalo head coach Chan Gailey initially said Spiller would miss this week's game, but later said that he wouldn't rule out an early return. On Wednesday, Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty turned the tables on a question about Spiller being out, saying "He's a very good player, but right now we don't know. I heard he might play, so we have to prepare as if he's going to be out there. In this league, it's tough to know if a guy is going to play throughout the week. You have to wait and see where guys are later in the week."
