Pats DE Jones ranks third in 'Rookie Watch'

Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones checks in at No. 3 on ESPN NFL Insider Matt Williamson's weekly "Rookie Watch," up one spot from his previous ranking of No. 4.

Jones is the highest-rated defensive rookie, according to Williamson, and trails only quarterbacks Andrew Luck (Colts) and Robert Griffin III (Redskins) on the list.

Williamson described what he has seen of Jones so far:

"Jones is equally effective in a two- or three-point stance and he has great versatility -- which of course endears him to Bill Belichick. He has been the only consistent pass-rusher for New England, and that lack of other difference-makers really hurt the Patriots in Baltimore on Sunday night."

Through three games, Jones has totaled 12 tackles, a sack, and has forced two fumbles.

Linebacker Dont'a Hightower, the Patriots' other first-round pick, was mentioned among Williamson's "Other notables."
