The Patriots waived defensive tackle Terrell McClain on Tuesday, a league source confirmed. In addition, the team terminated the contract of practice squad offensive lineman Thomas Austin.
McClain, signed last week, was active for his lone game with the team, but did not record any statistics in minimal playing time. The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder was originally a 2011 third-round pick of the Carolina Panthers. Tom E. Curran of Comcast Sports Net first reported the move.
Austin was signed to the team's practice squad on Sept. 1 after being waived by the Houston Texans. It was the second stint for Austin with the Patriots, as he was also a member of the team's practice squad during the 2010 season. He started his career with the Minnesota Vikings, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2010.
