FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- It wasn't pretty, but the Patriots offense did just enough to narrowly eclipse the New York Jets in a Week 7 29-26 overtime victory.
After the game, Gronkowski said that regardless of how it looked, he's happy with the win.
"Well, a win's a win," he said. "I'll take it whatever way. You can win some ugly and you can win some pretty and it just doesn't matter. We we work together as a team and we got the victory."
It was Gronkowski's first multi-touchdown outing of the the 2012 regular season, and his first since recording three touchdowns against the Denver Broncos during a divisional round playoff game last season.
Gronkwoski talked after the game about being in a rhythm with quarterback Tom Brady.
"I just got to be ready at all times; passing wise, blocking wise and when your number's called you just have to catch it and protect it," he noted. "It was just going good and everyone was just doing a good job out there."
Late in the game, Gronkowski and the offense were stalled on a drive, failing to close the game out on their own terms with a lead. The Jets eventually kicked a field goal to tie it, and later took the lead after recovering a fumble by McCourty and converting another field goal.
The Patriots' offense then had a chance at redemption, down by three points with less than two minutes to play. It was successful in navigating the ball into field goal range for Stephen Gostkowski, setting him up with a shot at game-tying field goal as time expired in regulation.
Gronkowski cited execution as the difference between the two drives.
"We just went out and completed passes, got the run game a little bit and everyone was just doing their job," Gronkowski said. "O-line was doing good and Tom [Brady] was putting the ball where it needed to be caught and the receivers were making good plays. Overall, we executed as an offense to get where we needed to [be] to kick that field goal."
The third-year tight end described getting the win as awesome.
"Yeah definitely -- always getting a win -- it's always great," he continued. "That's why you work so hard all week. That's why you prepare as hard as you can all week and getting the victory is awesome."
