Pats promote DB Malcolm Williams

October, 27, 2012
The Patriots have promoted practice squad defensive back Malcolm Williams to their active roster, the team announced today.

After placing cornerback Ras-I Dowling on the injured reserve list on Friday, the team needed to add one player to its active roster prior to Sunday's Week 8 matchup with the Rams in London.

Williams, a 2011 seventh-round pick for the Patriots out of TCU, was twice promoted from the practice squad to the active roster last year. He played in five total games, including each of the Patriots' playoff games, recording a single special teams tackle.

He was waived as part of the team's final roster cuts coming out of training camp this year, and subsequently signed to the practice squad.

He adds value as both a special teams player and reserve safety, where the team is thin as both Patrick Chung and Steve Gregory will miss Sunday's game due to injury.
Field Yates has previous experience interning with the New England Patriots on both their coaching and scouting staffs. A graduate of Wesleyan University (CT), he is a regular contributor to ESPN Boston's Patriots coverage and ESPN Insider.
