Cornerback Sterling Moore, waived on Wednesday, has been signed by the Patriots to their practice squad, according to a league source.
The 22-year-old Moore played as the team's primary nickel cornerback for much of the first half of 2012, totaling 13 tackles and one forced fumble.
Originally an undrafted free agent of the Raiders out of SMU in 2011, Moore was twice called up to the Patriots' active roster in 2011, and played an important role in the secondary during the team's march to Super Bowl XLVI.
The team added veteran cornerback Derrick Martin to the active roster on Wednesday, and he projects to be a more valuable special-teams contributor than Moore. In addition, the team acquired cornerback Aqib Talib in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday. Talib is eligble to be activated from a four-game suspension following the Patriots' Week 10 matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
