A sampling of opinions from national reporters who selected midseason All-Pro teams, highlighting Patriots players:

1. No contest at tight end; it's Gronkowski. Dan Pompei of the National Football Post puts one Patriot on his club, tight end Rob Gronkowski. "Even though he was playing hurt through a stretch of the first half, he still easily has been the best tight end in football," he writes.

2. Defensive rookie of the year -- Pats outfox Jets. Peter Schrager, writing for Foxsports.com, tabs Chandler Jones as his choice for defensive rookie of the year. "The Jets took Quinton Coples a few picks before Chandler Jones in April’s first round, but the Patriots seem to have gotten the more dynamic pass rusher eight weeks into the season. Jones has been an elite pass rusher for New England, recording six sacks midway through the season," Schrager writes.

3. Vollmer's work at right tackle not overlooked. The analytical website Pro Football Focus tabs right tackle Sebastian Vollmer as one of its two tackles. "He’s performed admirably for New England in giving up just one sack, one hit and 12 hurries in eight games," writes PFF, which also has Gronkowski as its tight end, Chandler Jones as one of its defensive ends, and Jerod Mayo as one its linebackers.
