In a recent piece posted to ESPN.com, Scouts Inc. provides a comprehensive scouting report of the Patriots' upcoming matchup with the Colts.
The post overviews which team has the edge from a personnel perspective at each position (and also factors special teams and coaching into the mix), with the Patriots holding a decided edge. Scouts Inc. says the Patriots have the edge at every position except for defensive back and on special teams.
It should be noted that the Colts will be without starting cornerback Vontae Davis this Sunday, while Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib is likely to make his debut after being acquired just prior to the NFL's trade deadline.
From a matchup standpoint, Scouts Inc. has the Patriots' receivers against the Colts defensive backs as a key positional battle. Top receiver Wes Welker was once again absent from the beginning of Thursday's practice, and his status for Sunday's game remains unclear. Tight end Aaron Hernandez also continues his rehab from an ankle injury that has kept him out of five games already this season.
Meanwhile, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is pinpointed as a featured player. If Welker and Hernandez are out on Sunday, Gronkowski could elevate to Tom Brady's primary target in the passing game.
As for who Scouts, Inc. is picking to win the game, the Patriots are their favorites, with a 30-24 predicted score.
