Salas was waived as the team made room for offensive lineman Markus Zusevics on the active roster. He was acquired by the Patriots via trade from the Rams prior to the start of the regular season, but was waived after the second regular season game.
He was signed to the Patriots practice squad shortly thereafter, and had his salary raised from $149,600 to $465,001 by the team in October.
After veteran receiver Deion Branch suffered a hamstring injury and was waived prior to Week 11, Salas was promoted from the practice squad, although he played a limited role in the Patriots 59-24 win over the Colts.
Originally a fourth-round pick in 2011, the Patriots sent a future seventh-round draft choice to St. Louis in the deal for Salas.
