Patriots defensive end Jermaine Cunningham has been suspended four games without pay for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing substances, the league announced today.
Cunningham, a third-year player out of the University of Florida, is the top backup to injured starter Chandler Jones (ankle). He has been one of the team's top pass rushers this year, leading the team in holding penalties drawn.
Cunningham's suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to return to the Patriots' active roster on Monday, Dec. 24, following the team's Dec. 23 road game against the Jaguars.
More on this to come.
