The Patriots worked out five defensive backs Friday, including Courtney Greene, one of Devin McCourty's former teammates at Rutgers.

The 26-year-old Greene, a safety, played in 30 regular-season games with the Jaguars from 2009 to 2011, with 13 starts.

Troy Nolan (Arizona State), Lane Olson (Wisconsin-Whitewater), Chris Rucker (Michigan State) and Tramain Thomas (Arkansas) were the other defensive backs in for workouts.

Nolan and Rucker are the most experienced of that group.

Nolan has played in 37 games over the last three seasons with the Texans and Dolphins (7 starts), while Rucker played in 15 games for the Colts last season (4 starts).

The workouts were likely to keep the team's emergency lists fresh.
