Sterling Moore leaves for Cowboys

11/30/2012

Defensive back Sterling Moore has left the Patriots practice squad to sign with the Cowboys' 53-man roster, his agent said Friday night.

Moore was most recently waived by the Patriots on Oct. 31 and re-signed to the team's practice squad. He had been the team's nickelback at the time of his release this year, having played 43 percent of the snaps.

The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Moore was perhaps best known for being in coverage on Ravens receiver Lee Evans in the AFC Championship Game on an incomplete pass before Billy Cundiff's missed field goal.

Moore played in nine games last season for the Patriots (6 regular season, 3 playoffs) and appeared in the first eight games this season before being waived.

With the acquisition of cornerback Aqib Talib, the emergence of rookie cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, and others such as veteran defensive back Derrick Martin offering more special teams value, Moore might have felt his road back to the 53-man roster was blocked and that the Cowboys offered a better chance to play.

Todd Archer of ESPNDallas has that angle covered on the Cowboys blog.
