The Patriots on Monday put in a claim on wide receiver Armon Binns, who was waived by the Bengals, a league source confirms.

Binns, a first-year player out of the University of Cincinnati, was awarded to the Miami Dolphins, who held a higher priority than the Patriots in the waiver order.

The claim by the Patriots is a suggestion that the team was trying to add depth to a wide receiving corps that was thinned by a recent season-ending injury to Julian Edelman. Veteran Donte' Stallworth was re-signed last week, and is expected to play tonight. The receiving corps is led by Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd.

Binns, a big-bodied wide receiver at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, had 18 catches for 210 yards and a touchdown in eight games for the Bengals this season.

Tom E. Curran of Comcast Sports Net first reported the claim.
