By placing wide receiver Donte' Stallworth on injured reserve and waiving tight end Visanthe Shiancoe on Tuesday, the Patriots had created two open spots on their active roster.

One of those was filled by wide receiver Deion Branch, who re-signed Wednesday, and the other will remain unoccupied, as the team decided not to make a move prior to the transaction wire being submitted this afternoon.

That means that the active roster stands at 52 players, and that the Patriots will need to deactivate just six players -- not the normal amount of seven -- for tomorrow night's matchup against the 49ers.

The possibility of adding a 53rd player was discussed HERE, and a projection of the inactive players was posted earlier today HERE.
