FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Special teams let the Patriots down in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers.

The punt return unit was penalized three times for holding (linebacker Mike Rivera, cornerback Marquice Cole, and fullback James Develin). The unit also gave up a 31-yard run on a fake.

And finally, there was LaMichael James’ 62-yard kickoff return after the Patriots had tied the game at 31.
