FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots on Tuesday signed wide receiver Andre Holmes to their practice squad, the team announced.
The 6-foot-4, 223-pound Holmes played in seven games this season for the Dallas Cowboys, catching two passes for 11 yards and recording three tackles on special teams.
Holmes entered the NFL in 2011 as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. The Hillsdale (Mich.) College product has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Cowboys. He ended the regular season on the Cowboys' practice squad but Dallas did not re-sign him for the offseason.
The Patriots could use Holmes on the scout team this week in practice, preparing for Houston Texans receiver Andre Johnson, who is similar in size at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds.
New England's practice squad is now at the eight-player limit.
