Breaking down Wilson's contract

PHOENIX -- A look at the three-year, $5 million contract signed by veteran safety Adrian Wilson with the Patriots:

Signing bonus: $1 million

2013 base salary: $1 million

2014 base salary: $1.5 million

2015 base salary: $1.5 million

There are $500,000 playing time incentives for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

This puts Wilson's 2013 salary cap charge at $1.33 million, and the cap charges wouldn't rise over $2 million in either of the final two years of the pact.

QUICK-HIT THOUGHTS: Overall, this seems like a fair deal for both sides -- Wilson assuring himself of at least $2 million for 2013, with greater financial upside (maximum of $4 million) if things works out well and he remains with the club the following two seasons. If Wilson plays well in 2013, the contract numbers are easily manageable from a team perspective to keep him on the roster in 2014/2015.
