Patriots' offseason workout bonuses

The Patriots' offseason workout program begins today, and many players' contracts contain clauses that reward them for being an active participant. The specific percentage of workouts a player must complete varies by the contract, but is often close to 80 or 90 percent.

Some players do not have any workout clauses in their contract, and some players opt to work out on their own either locally or in a different part of the country (the latter is far more common). Quarterback Tom Brady has had offseasons in which he has worked out in California, and it's not uncommon for veterans with families to stay home while they train.

The following Patriots have workout bonuses in their contracts for this offseason:

Linebacker Jerod Mayo: $250,000

Nose tackle Vince Wilfork: $200,000

Cornerback Ras-I Dowling: $125,000

Kicker Stephen Gostkowski: $100,000

Safety Steve Gregory: $100,000

Defensive tackle Kyle Love: $100,000

Defensive end Rob Ninkovich: $100,000

Wide receiver Matthew Slater: $100,000

Running back Shane Vereen: $100,000

Tight end Aaron Hernandez: $82,000

Wide receiver Julian Edelman: $50,000

Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly: $50,000

Safety Devin McCourty: $50,000

Cornerback Aqib Talib: $50,000

Center Ryan Wendell: $50,000

Tight end Rob Gronkowski: $30,000

Linebacker Niko Koutovides: $25,000

Offensive lineman Nick McDonald: $20,000

Cornerback Marquice Cole: $15,000

Wide receiver Michael Jenkins: $15,000

Linebacker Mike Rivera: $10,000
