Patriots' offseason workout bonuses

April, 15, 2013
The Patriots' offseason workout program begins today, and many players' contracts contain clauses that reward them for being an active participant. The specific percentage of workouts a player must complete varies by the contract, but is often close to 80 or 90 percent.

Some players do not have any workout clauses in their contract, and some players opt to work out on their own either locally or in a different part of the country (the latter is far more common). Quarterback Tom Brady has had offseasons in which he has worked out in California, and it's not uncommon for veterans with families to stay home while they train.

The following Patriots have workout bonuses in their contracts for this offseason:

Linebacker Jerod Mayo: $250,000
Nose tackle Vince Wilfork: $200,000
Cornerback Ras-I Dowling: $125,000
