As we learned in 2010 with Ohio University receiver Taylor Price, when a player's college has a late graduation date, it can put him at a disadvantage when it comes to integrating himself into the mix with his new NFL team.
Price, the Patriots' third-round draft choice that year, couldn't report to the Patriots until Ohio had graduation, per NFL rules (because Price had not finished all of his class requirements at the time). So when he finally could report, he found himself behind the rest of the rookie class, which had been working out at Gillette Stadium for weeks and taken part in organized team activities.
With this in mind, here is a look at the Patriots' 2013 draft class, and the dates that their schools are holding graduation this year:
LB Jamie Collins (Southern Mississippi) -- Friday, May 10
WR Aaron Dobson (Marshall) -- Saturday, May 11
CB Logan Ryan (Rutgers) -- Sunday, May 19
S Duron Harmon (Rutgers) -- Sunday, May 19
WR Josh Boyce (Texas Christian) -- Saturday, May 11
DE Michael Buchanan (Illinois) -- Sunday, May 12
LB Steve Beauharnais (Rutgers) -- Sunday, May 19
For a comparison, Ohio's graduation in 2010 was on June 11, which highlights how Price's situation was different.
In 2013, the Patriots have organized team activities on May 20-21, May 23, May 28-30, June 3-4 and June 6-7, with their mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 11-13.
All draft picks will be eligible to participate, which is something Price didn't have the luxury of doing back in 2010.
