NFL Network is in the process of unveiling the Top 100 players for 2013 as voted on by NFL players. A pair of Patriots, guard Logan Mankins (82) and tight end Aaron Hernandez (77), have appeared in the first 40 players to be announced, with others expected to show up later in the proceedings.
In the meantime, Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com has come out with his own list of the Top 100 players in the NFL for 2013, and four Patriots were among his choices.
Writes Prisco on the quartet (with their respective rankings included):
91. DT Vince Wilfork: He is still a force in the middle of their defense. Wilfork can play the nose or as a 4-3 tackle. He is tough to move.
59. ILB Jerod Mayo: He was good in his first couple of seasons, but was really good last year. He is more an all-round linebacker now, able to blitz and cover.
19. TE Rob Gronkowski: He missed time with injuries last season, but when he was on the field he was special. He remains the league's best tight end and a weapon that Brady loves having.
5. QB Tom Brady: When does he start to slow down? It wasn't in 2012. He threw for nearly 5,000 yards, had 34 touchdown passes and just eight picks.
These lists always make for an interesting read and typically spark intense debate. With a 32-team league that is full of talent, it’s a difficult duty to narrow in on just 100 players as the cream of the crop. Each of the Patriots on Prisco’s list was named to the Pro Bowl following the 2012 season.
