Wake-up call: Full pads on Day 3

July, 28, 2013
(Every day of training camp, we'll have a wake-up call that previews the day ahead.)

8:40 a.m. -- Bill Belichick news conference
9-11:30 a.m. -- Practice No. 3 of camp (open to public)
11:30 a.m. -- Player interviews

Sunday marks the Patriots' first full-pads practice of training camp, which means full contact.

The first two days of camp were more of an extension of spring minicamps, held in light shoulder pads. With pads, it opens another layer of evaluation.

Three primary things we'll be looking for:

1. How do receivers get off the jam at the line of scrimmage?
2. Defensive linemen/outside linebackers vs. offensive linemen/tight ends in pass-rush drills.
3. Running backs vs. the linebacker blitz.

From a media perspective, it seems as if about half of the 90-man roster has been available to answer questions over the last three days. So we'll see what fresh storylines develop, as it likely will be something tied to the first full-contact practice.
